    Windows stalling
    « on: December 23, 2007, 09:06:18 AM »
I have an HP Desktop w/ AMD 3800+ CPU, 3 Gb of RAM, running an Asus EN8600 Silent Video card, on XP.
I have noticed that when I click an application, it take about a second or two for the machine to respond, and it use to not do that. I've looked at my system info, and the ram is there, and everything reports that it is working properly, but it seems quirky at times. Also, Firefox is now putting up ads on my windows and that has never happened.
    Any ideas??
What a long, strange trip its been...

Also check with blackviper and be sure you are only running processes your machine really needs to have running..

How old is the computer? Some times it is great just to backup all your data and start from scratch. I have a a 5 year old computer that as I use as my primary rig, but a old 8 year old dell a D6400 with half the specs run faster than it does because I just wiped it and reloaded all my apps and docs. Another nice thing about doing this is you only install the apps you actually use and you drop all the useless one you never use and slow down your system.

Assuming, you have pop-up blocker on, you may have some infection.

yeh i concur with the virus malware idea it may seem that a key recorder is present or something more sinister that is checking what you do before the process is allowed to continue the problems associated with this type of attack is home page hijacking, pop ups(particularly porn) and when you use a search engine only being sent to pages that sell stuff, you may have to get professional help for this problem or back up only your word files and pics to disc and reinstall xp
