Author Topic: Vista - update KB943411 won't install (Read 13207 times)

There were 6 today's updates for Vista. All of them installed nicely, except for KB943411 - failed to install.
I tried to download it, and manually install it. Same thing.
Anyone of you having same problem?

I'm not exactly well-versed in Vista, but do you have your Sidebar disabled? Perhaps that could be preventing the update from installing. Not much information is available about this hotfix yet, so that's about the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Not that easy, though, I guess.
The update installed, it's listed as installed, so I disabled Sidebar again, but after restart in Windows Updates it's listed as ready to install again.

What happens if you try to install it again?
And did you restart while Sidebar was still enabled? This could make a difference.

We might just have to wait a few days for more information to become available. It usually doesn't take long for people to start having difficulties with the latest hotfixes.

If all else fails, I suppose you could simply tell Windows Updater to ignore the update since you don't really use Sidebar anyway.

If you just hide the sidebar, then your update should be fine. I just hid the sidebar when I first saw this annoying tool.

That was the next thing, I tried. It said, installed OK, please restart (I configured Sidebar to start with Windows).
After restart, Windows was configuring the update, and then it said, that installation was not successful.

I'd love to do it, but I can't see such an option in Vista's Updater.

Broni i have visited 7 different Forums with no luck on this issue...

Although there was one user who managed to get it to install by first un-installing Comodo.
Sounds a bit drastic but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...

MS has been completely silent on this issue so far.

I noticed Defense+ has some problems with Windows Update...

No dice, dairyman.
I disabled Comodo Pro 3 Defense, but it didn't make any difference.
With Sidebar closed, it won't install at all.
With Sidebar open, it says "installed", but after reboot, it says "fail".
I'll do more googling later.

Should have said this earlier...

Even though Defense+ is disabled, "My Pending Files" will still be enabled. Look in the list of pending files and check for files in the "softwaredistrubution" folder.

Sorry about the last post. What I was ment to say was, in the "My Pending Files", look for pending files that belong in the "softwaredistribution" folder.

Close that folder, open up Comodo Firewall 3 and click on the link that says "waiting for your review". There should be quite a few files there.

Look at the picture I attached. The entry with the red box around it is a file which belongs to a certain update. If you notice an entry similar to this, tick it, click on Move To, and click on My Own Safe Files. Make sure you tick all entries related to this.

I can't see any "waiting for your review" link.

Choose the entries listed as New / Modified, click on Move To, and click on My Own Safe Files. Does it install now?

Click on 'Status' near the top of the 'My Pending Files' window to show all entries that are New or New / Modified.

Download the update from HERE. After it has finished downloading, disconnect from the internet, exit COMODO Firewall Pro 3 by clicking on it's icon in the system tray and choosing Exit, and try to install the update. Did it install this time?

TEMPORARY FIX 2 :
0 - Open Comodo
1 - Go to Defense+->Advanced->Defense+ Settings and select "Deactivate Defense+ PErmanently" option
2 - Restart your computer and retry the updates.
3 - After the updates are completed, reacrtivate the Defense+ and restart your computer.

NOTE
1. Update KB943411 installed right away without rebooting the computer.
2. Sidebar didn't have to be open, nor running.
