Problem booting from CD
« on: January 10, 2008, 06:31:56 PM »
I'm having problems booting from my CD. I am trying to repair my windows xp. When I get to the part where it says "Press a key to boot from CD" I press a key and nothing happens. I've pressed many different keys and still nothing. I am 100% sure the keyboard works, I am using it to type this and I can use it to acsess BIOS on the problem computer.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Is it a PS/2 keyboard (old style) or USB keyboard?
Do you have a PS/2 keyboard that you can try to use instead?
Did you try using a different key to enter the setup? Eg: Instead of pressing Enter, press the H key (since, you can, after all, press "any key")

I have a USB keyboard, and I have tried several different keys.  I use the delete key to acsess BIOS but when I need to boot from CD even that key doesn't work. I don't have another type of keyboard to use, I have tried others but they are all USB.

Often these keyboards come with an USB to PS/2 adapter. If you got one you can connect an USB keyboard to a PS/2 port.

I borrowed a PS/2 keyboard from my friend and that worked, thanks.

Everyone should have one in their closet...along with a PS2 mouse.

Or at least an PS/2 adapter for your keyboard/mouse. That'll work too.
