Darn software...
« on: January 09, 2008, 02:22:48 AM »
I need help right now. I use Windows XP SP2. I use IZArc archiver. However, for the last few days, IZArc has being playing stupid by closing whenever it likes and not appearing on the screen while it appears in the task bar. It is also related to a problem I had with Windows Explorer. Right now I'm trying to install IkonBoard and FFDB, but had no luck since this application keeps closing whenever I'm doing something with it!!

I am totally CLUELESS. I am stumped. I'm confused.  ??? ??? ???

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to resolve??
Thank you so much!

Are you getting any error messages? What was the problem with Windows Explorer? Have you tired to uninstall and reinstall the software?

No error messages, just the one that says "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I'll try to reinstall tonight.

You can try Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
    Let it finish and re-boot.

Also you may want to checkout 7Zip which i believe will handle arc files.
Sounds like IZArc makes some file associations that Explorer doesn't like or it's poorly written.

p.s. This issue is mentioned more than once on their Forums...

Thanks patio for the suggestion. I'll reinstall IZArc and if that doesn't work, I'll try another compression utility.

OK, just reinstalled IZArc. I'll see what happens when I unzip a ZIP folder...

Hooray! It worked! I can use IZArc without Windows Explorer crashing.

    Thank you!  :) :) :)

    Backup? For what?
    For my documents, it's USB.

But I can't host a forum, since my computer cannot run more than 24 hours without problems.

Well, after a few weeks of NORMAL usage I got the Windows Explorer error message again.  :'( :'(

But I uninstalled IZArc and am now using FilZip. Hopefully this works.
