Wi-Problem with Vista. (Limited Connectivity?)
« on: January 20, 2008, 11:56:06 AM »
My vista laptop has worked flawlessly with my home network (linksys WRT54G) for almost a year now.. But all of the sudden about two weeks ago I began to have huge problems..

I would be surfing the internet, then all of the sudden the page would time out. My internet status down in the right hand corner would go from (Local and Internet) pictured below:

Then once the page times out, it goes to (Limited Connectivity) pictured below:

Now, if i wait like a minute or so, the status will return to Local and Internet and work again.. But its really a pain in the arse.  Like when I'm trying to download something, or I'm playing poker, this happens and I lose my download and poker! It really sucks..

And even though my internet is working right now, I still get this icon when I look at my network. Pictured Below.

I really really appreciate any advice that you guys can give me.. I really don't want to go out and buy a new router, cause this is my second WRT54G (I bricked the last one trying to update the firmware) and this router isn't more than a couple months old..

The couple things that I have tried that didnt help were:
1. disabling "auto tuning"
2. and disabling ipv6.

Thanks so much guys, i really appreciate any feedback.

Have you tried turning the router on/off? Sometimes it needs a restart.

DHCP is sometimes flaky over wifi.  Consider manually configuring the IP settings of your wireless network card.  I also recommend disabling any SuperG type mode and changing channels on the router.  Also look for sources of interference (e.g. large objects between you and the router, microwaves, cordless home phones, etc.)
