    acquiring network address
    « on: January 23, 2008, 07:02:41 AM »
When I put a wireless card in my old laptop, and it begins " acquiring network address " it takes an extremely long time. I know networking is involved beyond a step by step here, but is there anythign simple I can look at?  ???

    Thanks
    Joe

    There's a lot you're leaving out here.

Are you connecting to your own wireless?
Is there a password on your wireless access?
Have you tried this wireless card in another computer?
Have you tried this wireless card with this computer in another location?
Have you tried another computer with wireless on this same network?
Have you tried another wireless card in your computer?

"Old laptop"...what Operating System are you using?

Also, what kind of interface is it?  Have you got a serial, model number or any branding on it?

I don't suppose you know the specs of your laptop in question do you?

I'm afraid we'll need to know a shade more before we can point you in the right directions.

Well before I waste your time on all that, the card is D-Link, but the router is Netgear. Should that matter as long as I have the netword password?

          Yes it does matter.
