computer freezes please help
« on: February 01, 2008, 10:49:08 AM »
Hello guys i am new to this forum and have a problem with my computer freezing;
I have made my pc myself with those components: ASUS crosshair motherboard with NVIDIA nForce 590, i have 3 gb of ddr2 installed which are kingston 800 mhz 1GB x 2, and one corsair xms 1 GB 800 mhz ddr 2, i have ps-05 EZcoll power supply 550W, GeForce 8800 GTS 320 mb, and AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5600+,  SupremeFX audio card and windows xp professoinal sp2*.
So before i have put my pc together it was all working fine on xp pro sp2 for like half a year, then i have installed some updated driver for my amd processor and crapic card and after maybe 10 days it started failing loading up windows stopping at the loading screen, the i have spent days on internet looking for solution i thought it was the change of drivers that caused this i have tryed to repair windows twice via xp cd it worked byt was freezing again and not starting at all, then i tryed recovery console from xp cd, brang it back to my old working profile it worked first time than again freezing, so i finally decided to reinstall windows to xp pro preview pack of sp3,I instlled my oroginal drivers and the pc, but it still freezes after some time, i think its hard drive bcs the light on the box doesnt flash which indicates the hard drive, when my pc frezzes, but i am not sure plase help!!!, thank you in forward.

3 things you can try...
1) Remove SP3...it's still a BETA.
2) Pull the Corsair stik and see if it settles down.
3) Re-install the OS and revert to the original drivers...

Some combination of the above should get you back to stable...

In the meantime DLoad and run the diagnostics from the drive manuf. site to see if the drive is the culprit.

      Then the diagnostics tool for your hard drive is Seatools.

      I have downloaded the diagnostics applications for my hard drive and it found 3 errors in one of the lba sectors and it has fixed it but i still fail on short and long cst test in one of the applications....so maybe i will need a new hardrive and to contact Seagate for a replacement, thanks anyway mate

        If it fails the tests the drive is bad, so yeah you should contact Seagate for a replacement.
