I have ordered a Data Cable for my UTStarcomm 7025 cell phone for the purpose of taking MP3 files in my computer and reconstructing them into Ringtones and placing them into my Cell Phone.

    Is this hard?

This all depends on your cell phone.  Some of them require special software that could be hard to obtain, and some phones won't allow external sound files to be added.  My girlfriend's phone won't let such files be set as ringtones.  So, as you can see, doing this can sometimes be difficult.  I have a Nokia 6085 and it's very easy to do this for my phone.  All I have to do is plug it in; it requires no drivers or special software.  It just works right away and lets me do what I want.  Because I've never even heard of your phone model, I can't tell you how easy or hard it will be.

As for actually making the ringtones...it's pretty simple.  What I do is convert the MP3 to a WAV, then cut out a 20-second portion of the song with Sound Recorder, convert it back to MP3, and transfer it to my phone.  Not the best method, but it's easy.

It should save you all that converting.      On the other hand,  if you are on dial-up, it might not be efficient.
It is still a cool site.  :)
It even has options for sending to your phone.

Very neat site.  Certainly looks useful.  But unfortunately, I am on dial-up, so my current method is a lot faster for me.  Heh.

I just hook it up to my PC with a USB cable.  Doing so brings up a prompt on my phone for either Nokia mode (this mode requires a driver), Music sync (gives me access to all of the files/folders on my phone and memory card, and doesn't require a driver), or Data storage (gives me access to just my memory card; also doesn't require a driver).

    Nice.

Just the other day,  I saw a friend of mine's son doing some cell phone manipulation.
If we sent a text message via an email,  with a small .mp3 attached,  we found that the .mp3 either did not make it through,  or that it simply could not be accessed by the phone.   He was trying to import it as a ringtone.
(I still don't get it... how come it works when done from those websites, but not from email/text message sent from a computer)

I think he said that his cell phone required a special USB cable though.   USB on one end, and some proprietary connection to match his phone on the other end.

Instead,  he used a laptop that could do Blue Tooth.
    Drag, drop,  done!
He could move .mp3s into his phone just that quick.    Very nice.

Ah, yes, BlueTooth can be quite handy.  I'd like to get it for my computer so I can stop using my bulky USB cable.  Your friend's son could likely find a cable on eBay for less than $5, including shipping.  Mine was a total of $3.  But it sounds like he already found a suitable solution.

Certain phones will let you text audio files via e-mail, but many won't.  I'm not sure how sites do it, but I would guess that they probably send a download link to your inbox or something of that sort.  Last time I bought a ringtone through AT&T, that was how they got it to me.

    Never mind that's a wallpaper.
I seem to remember something along these lines though...

Try those links I posted above, and let us know.    If you edit it down to a small file before you upload it,  it won't take long to send.

It's really ok if you use just a plain old .mp3 too.   I wouldn't think of asking you to try it with the $89 Bikini babe!      :D
