There WAS indeed a budget number given at the beginning of the thread....
sure, it's nice to suggest saving up a little more to add some power to some
of the components, but hey, why not just save up $5000?

Sometimes, we do the best we can, and we have to start somewhere...

$800n to $1000 isnt as much of a reach as your $5000...

    dude to get to $5000 dollars you could probably buy one of those High performance Workstations or heck you could buy to awesome desktops, combine em(by use of direct connection through ethernet) and make a small SUPERCOMPUTER!

    Sorry, my $5000 reference was a cheap shot, but I saw the sniping earlier in the thread -- it seems budgets are the first thing to be overrun, but it's certainly reasonable to ask if another $200 can be found...

    I always get a little misty - eyed (speaking of high end) at the mention of Seymour Cray...    ;)

        Thats so true, my teacher said that the parts we have know come from super pcs and well never be ahead of them cause we get the pecies that dont seem to run at the speeds at which they need any more.  Only cause we feel superior

          dude the fastest supercomp that i know of is in Japan, it can proccess up to 4 Trillion Calculations per second! Blazing Fast Speed!

                    probably the comps of the future will be multi-proccesor comps. and will have way BETTER voice regiontion(srry if i mispelled) and the may only be half of the price of comps today.

                      Quad core has been out for quite a while now.
