1st timer here and looked through some posts and couldnt find anything.. I think! i bought a used gateway solo 5300 and am having trouble with connection, I use TWC's high speed roadrunner.
1st i tried to run application cd and it says "configuration error"
i tried to use internet connection wizzard and no connection is found but it still found the modem i use for my pc.
i am not using wireless just trying through ethernet

since then i think i have seen that there are no drivers for cable modem, tried the preferred driver disc that was given and still cannot locate drivers.... and i still cannot figure out what is going wrong

You don't need any modem drivers. Did you call your ISP to check your settings?

says i need internet exp 5.5 or above, i have 5.0 on there now, how do i get that? i have been on this site looking and cant find anything. also gave me an "x" in connectivity.

If Windows 2K, you better make sure, you have all Windows updates up to date, including SP4.

Download everything on good computer, burn it to CD, and install on bad computer.

well i tried it it and keeps given me 2 different messages...one said i do not have legal access i think and the other said check to see if cd was full, i bought cd-rw high speed, do i need a different kind of disc?

In case of error messages, you need to post EXACT message.

maybe i am doing something wrong, i saved ie6setup to desktop, right clicking and trying to send to the disc and it says: cannot replace or create ie6setup: access is denied. make sure the disc is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

just not sure if the disc i have is not writable or if i am doing something wrong.

In order to put a file on CD, you need to burn it to CD.
Download, and install free CDBurnerXP: http://cdburnerxp.se/
It'll do it for you.

Oh, you're talking about CDBurnerXP....It's compatible with Windows 2000 (windows nt version 5.0.2195)

You're not installing anything? You're just downloading, right?
What Windows version do you have on a computer, you're downloading CDBurnerXP?

Yes, it should, but you can't install it on Windows ME to burn files.
You'll need to ask a friend to burn those downloads to CD for you.

Let me put things together. Your laptop is with Windows ME, and you want to go to at least Windows 2000?
If this is correct, we'' need your laptop specs. What is the brand, and model of your laptop? Were there any hardware changes to it, or it has original configuratuion?

The laptop has Windows 2000 Prof, and I want to upgrade it now can I buy any windows upgrade like if I wanted 98 instead of 2000, or do I need to stick with what I have. The laptop is an old Gateway Solo 5300, not sure what else you need to know so I will keep checking for your response.

Why would you want to go from Win 2000 to Win 98? Win 2000 is much better OS.

Being a chef and not a computer guy I listen to what I have heard and someone told me that 98 was better, or that 2000 had alot of problems on it. so what should I do?

You stay with Win 2000. It must be the most stable Operation System ever built. I still use it.

When you run Win 2000 updates, it should upgrade IE to version 6. If not, you can always download it manually.
