    connection is broadband with my Comcast account using a Netgear router... network speed status is 56 mbps
    I did try running with firewall off ....... no noticeable change

      fyi...you may have hit it the nail on the head about the connection issue. I ran the free program speedtest.net to check the download and upload speeds and was floored when I saw the results, wish I would have done this earlier.
      Anyway, download speed .... 120 kbs upload speed 50 kps, that sucks !! Might as well go back to dial-up
      I called comcast and they also checked my signal and found it to be very weak. Technician is coming out to my house this week.

        Finally closure on this !!
        The freakin modem was the source of the problem, technician replaced it as well as the cable splitter for the TV/PC.
        download speed is 8-9 Mbps !!
        definitely a learning experience, thanks again for the help.
