    AS Rock 266a and xp
    « on: April 12, 2008, 11:56:41 PM »
I just installed a AS Rock M266A.  Running XP.  It stays at searching for boot record from IDE-0... ok.  I cannot get it to finish booting up?  HELP?

      More info is needed here.
      Computer specifications.
More details on the problem, including any error messages you get.
What have you done so far?

installed a new motherboard.. installed two ddr ram sticks... dvd, cdrw drives etc...  have a 40GB hd running xp home..  intel celeron processor.  i had the old board tested and it was no good and bought the AS Rock...  i have checked the BIOS the boot pattern is as follows...
        1/4 in floppy
        cd/dvd
        samsung 40 gb hd
        disabled
I replaced to cmos battery with a new one, checked all connections to the motherboard...  pwr supply has been tested--its good
Don't know what to do now.....

Is the hard drive detected by the BIOS?
Have you reinstalled Windows after you replaced the motherboard?

yes the hard drive is recognized in bios...  the computer guy said all i would have to do is a repair not a reinstall of windows....  i have the drivers i need for the board but cant get windows to boot up to install them...  i don't want to lose the software installed on my hard drive.

You will need to reinstall Windows, but you should be able to do so without formatting the hdd by doing a repair install.

For this task you should be booting to the XP CD and doing the repair install from there...
Follow Deerparks excellent instructions he posted.
Read it thru completely to get familiar with the procedure and print out a copy for reference...
