jittery sound
« on: April 15, 2008, 12:47:45 PM »
I have a Dragon Ultra SY-P4X400 (that I built myself), P4 3.08Ghz, 1G RAM, Maxtor 320G HD, Maxtor 120G HD, Maxtor 320G USB external HD, Seagate 160 G HD, Lite-On CD/DVD-R/CW, Creative CD-R/CW, running WinXP SP2. The sound is onboard C-Media 8738 PCI audio.

My problem is whenever I play anything with sound....a MP3, MPEG, AVI, DVD or streaming video, the sound is jittery, Hiccups. It'll sort of freeze for a second and then jerkingly start playing. A minute, a few minutes, 30 minutes laster, it'll do it again.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled old sound drivers and new drivers. Nothing has worked. I did have to reinstall WinXP during December. Everything was working fine up until then.

Help?

Borrow a sound card from a friend. Maybe your on-board chip is going south.
