    Help Please
    « on: May 05, 2008, 11:14:40 AM »
My problem is that my computer, when I turn it on, will stay on for about 15 seconds and then automatically turn itself off and then right back on.   I also sent a email hoping to get help, before I posted on the forums, but it said it might take up to or more than 31 days for a response.  So thats why I posted here.   If anyone knows or has any ideas how to fix it, I will be very greatful.  Thanks for any and all help.

    Welcome to CH.

Post a Hijackthis log so we can have a quick look.

    Download and rename HijackThis (HJT)
    • Double-click on HJTInstall.
    • Click on the Install button.
    • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
    • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
      • Close HijackThis and rename it.
      • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
      • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
      • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
      • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
    • From the desktop open Hijackthis.
    • If using Windows Vista, Right-click and Run As Administrator.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
    • Hijackthis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
    • Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
      • Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Although we have renamed Hijackthis to sniper, we will still refer to it as Hijackthis or HJT.

Thanks for the reply evilfantasy.  However i'm not to sure how I can download that program when it keeps on turning itself on and off before windows loading screen is done.

Try unplugging anything you may have like printer, iPods and so on and see if it helps.

I have no extra things hooked to my computer.  Just have mouse and keyboard and thats it.  Its been like this for like 3-4 months now.  I have another question, If something was fried or broke, would that be the cause of the problem.  I had a computer that got a power surge and fried my computer.  But the computer wouldn't even power up, however this still does.  It doesn't make sense to me.  Thanks for your help evil.

Not sure what to try next. Try posting in the Microsoft Windows forum. Maybe someone will have some ideas in there.

Just to throw this out there, since I have gotten a lot of help from the board, I had a similar problem with my computer as well.... turned out that the Motherboard was shot and had to have it replaced :(  I mean this may not be it at all, but I have had the same problem and that was what it was
