    Apologies to Computer Hope staff
    « on: May 04, 2008, 02:21:19 AM »
    Dear staff at Computer Hope.

I recently posted a question asking for an opinion on bittorrent/P2P. I have since read more on the controversy and would like to apologize for the post. I can certainly see why you would want to steer clear of the issue.

I am a jewelry designer and have had some of my designs copied without my permission. Without doubt people are using the bittorrent technology to the detriment of original designers of material. Touchy subject. Please accept my apologies. I'll be more careful in the future.

No worries, mate. I followed your thread before but didn't post any comments.

BitTorrent programs can be used to distribute material legitimately, but unfortunately, that's usually not the case. It's because of the amount of illegal/pirated material available through such services that we don't give much advice on them.

My advice.....Keep well away from p2p programmes....It  is not only illegal but you can download all sorts of problems.
Always listen to what others have to say...there will be a time when you will want others to listen to you.

No apology neccessary...you asked about something you were unaware of and were informed of the Forum Guidelines and handled it properly.

      BTW Welcome to Computer Hope.

P2P programs are NOT illegal. Using the program to download pirated music/software is what's illegal. If you download and use a P2P program to share music you've written, that you own the rights to, or to share a software program that you own the rights to, then you are breaking no laws.

Though it seems illegal to download mp3's, files, etc, from p2p sites. Is it ok to share (i.e. upload) mp3's to share? I have some old records which are not yet released on CD's. I have checked ebay, several CD sites, and even the artist's site, though I could contact him or his manager (John Rowles - New Zealand 's most poplar singer from the 60's - 70's).

It seems a waste of the record's old tracks (mainly b side tracks on vinyl 33's) that I have had for over 30 years, - can't sell them, as they are sitting in numerous NZ 2nd hand shops, and no doubt thousands of NZ homes. But I'm sure many NZ's and others might want them on CD's...

pcsourcepoint if it is copywrite protected you can not legally reproduce it in any manner with out written consent from the copywrite owner. Even if it is hundreds of years later somebody still paid for and owns the rights to it.
