Can not load Microsoft application on Vista
« on: May 10, 2008, 12:27:44 PM »
I recently obtained two Microsoft programs as a gratuity for participating in a Microsoft development project.   1) Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and 2)Microsoft Flight Simulator.  When I try to load either one, I get an error message.  i.e. (for  Office) I get;  ""Error 1935 An error occurred during installation of assembly component {97E81AF1-0E47-DC99-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}, HRESULT: Ox800736FU.""  When I try to load the Flight Simulator I get, again, "Error 1935" But with a different string of alphanumerical characters.    I am using a HP Pavilion, with 2 GB ram, 200 GB hard drive  and Vista OS.   What really ticks me off is that, before I tried to load Office 2007, I unistalled Office 2000 that I had been using and I cannor reinstall it.   Now I am stuck with no WORD  or EXCEL.   Can any one help.   Thanks for listening (reading) to my troubles,    JIM
You are much appreciated..     Thank you ,

Go Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features, and uninstall all versions of NET Framework.
Restart computer.
Download, and install Net Framework 3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

When I tried to install NET Frame 3.5 the machine went through all the normal processes, the installation progress bar filled up to 100% but then it said please wait to complete installation.  I waited two hours then canceled.  The message was "Setup closed before installation was complete".  Later I tried to install some ipod software and the same thing happens.   Something is hanging up before the installation is complete.  same thing happened when it tried to install a windows update.

Start with Windows Installer CleanUp Utility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Then, get a fresh copy of Windows Installer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803

BRONI: When I tried to refresh the INSTALLER with  "Installer 3.1 v2 Redistributable" I got SETUP ERROR Not enough storage available to [process this command.....Setup was not complete.....  I have over 1 gig unused ram and 56 gigs of unused hard drive.  What does this message mean??

PATIO:  The programs "Flight simulator" and Office 2007 were on CD's direct from Microsoft.  The iipod software was downloaded.

Thanks guys for taking the time to help me with this.   JIM

SETUP ERROR Not enough storage
"Storage" in the above error refers to low memory, but it looks like it's not the issue with computer setup.
Restart computer, and try again.

How was Office 2K uninstalled ? ?
Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Commang Prompt and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
Have your Vista CD handy.
Re-boot when it's done and try again.

PATIO:    Office 2K was uninstalled using the "Programs and features" utility on the control panel.      However, I was able to reinstall Office 2K recently.    I needed to use Excel and Word.
What does "sfc /scannow" do?  I do not have a Vista CD.     It was loaded onto a partition of the hard drive at the factory.        I haven't tried using it.

I have heard recently that Vista has a new SP  update.  Is that true?

Truenorth:     I went to that link and discovered the following message;Microsoft strongly recommends using Windows Update to download and install Windows Vista SP1 on single PCs:, which is well and good, however, when my machine downloaded the latest update, it was unable to install it just as it has been unable to install anything else.  One exception, I was able to reinstall Office 2000 the other day.   Go figure.  So I am hesitant to try to down load SP 1 and install it.

Broni:    Yes, I have tried system restore three times, each to a later date.   But I don't know when my rouble developed.

Thanks for all of your efforts guys.   Don't give up on me,   JIM

BRONI:  I have never been able to locate any NET Frame in the machine BUT, the Belarc  Advisor Computer  Profile Summary shows that there is a Microsoft® .NET Framework Version 2.0.50727.312 somewhere.   I can not locate it using "SEARCH" or "Windows Explorer".    Nor does it show up in "Programs and Features" under Control Panel.

      BRONI:     The first item seems to be directed at all of the Miscrosoft OS except Vista.  So I tried to use the second option.  It starts off right away with the following statement;
The updated version of the cleanup tool contains options to clean up the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 separately and all versions simultaneously in a single step.  The cleanup tool contains logic so that if it is run on an OS version that includes the .NET Framework as an OS component, it will not offer the option to clean it up.  This means that running the cleanup tool on Windows XP Media Center Edition or Tablet PC Edition will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 1.0, running it on Windows Server 2003 will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 1.1 0.and running it on Windows Vista will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 2.0 or the .NET Framework 3.0......        Does that mean that it will not work on Vista??
You are much appreciated..     Thank you ,

Well guys, I will try to bring you up to date.  Before I resorted to "Vista Recovery" on   my hard drive, I decided to download and install SP-1.  However, it would not install. >:(   Microsoft has a web site and a phone no.for SP-1 install problems, which i phoned.  That connected me with a person in India who tried to help me out.   I am 80 years old and my hearing is not as it was 40 years ago.  I do not hear a lot of words correctly even when spoken in English with no accent.  A conversation with an East Indian person is extremely difficult.  :-X   However, after 4 phone calls i finally got connected wiht a person  who took over my "Desk top", manipulated the machine for a few minutes then told me I had "corrupted system files".   He advised me to contact HP and demand an "In Place Upgrade DVD".   So I called HP, got another person in India, and was informed that they did not give out those DVD's.   It would cost me $150.00.  I suppose I over reacted to that but I refused and hung up. :-\  I will next try to use the "Vista Recovery" on the hard drive.    I'm not sure how but eeeehhhh. ???
I am going up into the mountains for a couple of weeks so I will not be on  line for a while.   I want to thank you guys, especially you, BRONI for you continued efforts to help.    No doubt, we will exchange notes again later,  GOD BLESS,  JIM

jim.mar, I have been doing extensive reading up on Vista (even though i do not have it installed on anything (yet) ) in order to see if i can get any kind of a clue as to what is happening to your computer.
1st. Which of the 3 commercially available versions of Vista do you have installed?
2ND -i don't see why endeavoring to install those 2 gratuities that you received from Bill& company should be such a problem unless the version of Vista you have (or other hardware/software components are insufficient). But on this issue i would try (avoiding India if you can) to demand of Microsoft that given that they have provided you with these items in recognition for a service you provided to them. And that as a result of your efforts to use them you have encountered grief. Tell them you would prefer to be able to install and use the 2 gifts they sent you--failing that you expect them (not HP or anyone else) to make you whole again back to where you were (which primarily would involve your ability to re install your office 2000 suite you had).
3rd--yes the "in place upgrade DVD is primarily used for advancing your Vista version to a higher level version and it does cost money. Some companies and HP appears to one of them has blocked the upgrade function on their DVD,s. Apparently Microsoft intended that all 3 version were to be provided on 2 disks (one 32 bit and one 64 bit) and you could use the disks to upgrade at any time (provided you payed for and received a valid user key-i guess from microsoft but maybe also the computer mfg.) However as i read many articles on that method of upgrade i saw many people having problems with that route. So before you go that route be carefull. I would have thought that a restore should solve your "corruption " problems. good luck, truenorth

truenorth:  Thank you.  you have given me something to think about.  I know just the person at MS to contact.  However, it will have to wait until I get back to civilization.  I can't understand why HP would block the upgrade function.  Well, thanks again.  I really appriciate your efforts.  See ya later, GOD BLESS,  JIM
