    Trying to use external monitor
    « on: July 08, 2008, 07:08:35 PM »
    OK,

So I have an XPS M1710 laptop, running vista.

I want to use a Panasonic big screen as my external monitor, but i am having some problems.

Ive looked on the internet, found this link.. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000801.htm but i have a different 15 prong plug in, in the back of my laptop. VGA Connection.
I bought a VGA to Component monitor cable, it had the VGA on one end and green, red, and blue plugs on the other. After i Installed it, and pressed Fn+F8...the screen of the external monitor is just glitching hard. I cant even see any of my desktop. I was wondering if i needed another plug in or adaptor or what...

    Thanks for the help.

Well first of all TV's suck for external monitors because their resolution is way lower than a standard CRT or LCD.

From the sounds of it you are using a VGA to YUV cable?(correct me if I'm wrong)

the only thing i can think of to say to you is try to reduce the external monitor resolution as low as possible and things should clear up a bit

      Another option may be...

Does your TV have S-Video input and the laptop have S-Video out?

This would be easier as no conversion has to be made first see :)
