How do I uninstall ie6?

Quaxo - Do you have any specific programs in mind. I've had no issue with programs using IE once I made FF my default browser.

and some programs like Windows Live Messenger will still force it to open when you click to open Hotmail.

And I've yet to get it to stop. Yahoo Messenger links, internet shortcuts, everything opens in Firefox. For some reason, WLM won't stop opening in IE when it opens something from the internet.

So WLM is the culprit? Don't use it - funny that the offender is a M$ program

Makes me feel better about the various anti-trust suits against M$!

EDIT 2: Probably want to be careful when selecting the "Enable Polygamy" option!

Wow, thanks drm. I'll check that out tonight when I get back home. I looked for something like that a while back and never could find it. Maybe I just didn't get the search parameters right. There was another program what would open only in IE, but I can't remember what it is. I did finally find a way to get it to stop.

Actually, I only use WLM on my desktop. On my laptop, I use aMSN because it takes less space, it doesn't act stupid, and it isn't a Microsoft product. My webcam doesn't work right in it, but I never use the webcam on my laptop. The webcam on my desktop works fine with it though.

If you install Messenger Plus! Live DO NOT INSTALL the Sponsor programs along with it. Be sure to uncheck those when installing Messenger Plus! Live. That program is ad supported (adware). If you choose to ninstall the Sponsored programs it then installs the Swizzor trojan along with LOP.com and various other nasties.

Be sure to check “I refuse to give my support, don’t install the sponsor“ If not you will be in the malware removal forum posting the logs.

What do you think - should we remove the link to the program? The link, in it's instructions, gives the same advice that you do; but, is the program otherwise okay? The comments at the link seem to be favorable.

Please advise and feel free to strike the link, if appropriate.

The Messenger Plus program itself is clean. They just don't mention that installing the sponsor programs will give you popups and redirects etc...

Thanks - I'll leave the link, then, since the instructions stress not to install the sponsor programs.

My problem was that I was trying to update ie from 6 to 7 and it would not install. It would come up with a error saying that it could not install and to restart the computer. I was thinking it was corrupted. So I wanted to know how to uninstall it and so that I could install 7 on it.

You IE7 download was probably corrupted. Did you try downloading it again?

 Yes. It didn't work.  Going back to the problem again, I had to do a repair installation on it with cd's from hp the problem was that it reverted it back to pre sp1. I installed sp2 on it and tried to install ie 7 but it would not work. The reason for doing the repair install was because it would not load windows because some the system files had been corrupted or missing possibly to a trojan. I scanned when I got into windows after the installation and found no viruses or trojans.
