    Graphics Card
    « on: July 20, 2008, 08:35:45 PM »
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm hoping it is.
    Anyway.
I have this computer bought from Dell, Dimension C521.
It's not like a normal computer it's minimized. It's smaller size then normal computers and it's width is greater then the normal cpu but height is much less.

    This is basically the one.

My question anyway was what's the best graphics card can I get for this kind of computer.

Actually I did google like the entire day today... and can't really find any good ones... I'm not so good at finding out if the card is good or bad. Those words and numbers don't mean anything to me lol.
My guess the bigger the better but how big the numbers have to be?
      I still need help.

Post your computer specs, why you want to change video cards (what you want to accomplish with a new card) and someone will be along to help you. It's difficult to help when all you have requested is "what's the best graphics card can I get for this kind of computer."
If you don't have time to do it right
...when will you have time to do it over?

Okay well... I want to run Supreme Commander game basically super good/fast.
I looked into something and found this
          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318
I was wondering if this could fit in the half sized computer.
I've noticed it's only for windows Vista but that's no problem.

          Here the System stuff

          System Model: Dimension C521
BIOS: )Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG

What size power supply do you have and what type of expansion slot do you have for the video card?

I'm not a gamer but the people who know will need the answer to these questions.

EDIT: The card that you referenced appears to be a full sized card - you need a 'low profile' card.

Well I have the PCI Express slot x16 and some other 2 PCI Slots.

I am not sure what Size is the power supply. I looked in today but couldn't find anywhere that said anything about my power supply.

You have a 280W PSU, which is not enough for a modern graphics card.
This is the best low profile card I can find by the way, but it won't play Supreme Commander "super good/fast".  Anyway, you won't be able to use it without a better, Dell-specific, PSU.  And then there are heat issues to consider too.
And to play Supreme Commander well, you'd need a better CPU too.

Nvm guys thnx for your help and stuff but I found the best low profile card at the moment... It will defenetly play Supreme Commander and Crysis and other cool new games.

Most likely will need a better Power Supply but we shall see.

Sorry but you're wrong, the card I pointed out is faster and cheaper, and also uses less power so it's more likely to work.
Neither of those cards will play Crysis acceptably, and they also won't play Supreme Commander "super good/fast".
However, suit yourself, I can only advise you.

If you would read the review the card that I showed, it can run Crysis on Medium settings pretty good. Meaning Supreme Commander will be defenetly playable smoothly. May be not on Maxed but in at least Medium it will play pretty well.

OK, I see the review but it doesn't mention his other specs, or the resolution.
I would just say though that the card needs a low profile kit, adding to its already higher price, and it is slower and more power hungry than the card I linked to.
I thought when you said "super fast/good" you meant maxed, but obviously I got the wrong impression.

OK, I owe you an apology.
I wasn't thinking straight  last night when I wrote those posts and I didn't see that the card I linked to has DDR2 memory, as it's actually specified as GDDR2, which doesn't exist, but I read it as GDDR3.
The 8600GT in this case is in fact faster, and I do apologize for my mistake.
My other comments do still stand though.
