Avast on Vista
AVG 8.0 on XP (thinking about getting rid of it)
AVG 7.5 on 2K, and 98.

First I had Norton Antivirus 2002 (or 2003, I don't remember). I really liked it. It performed very well but that was quite some time ago (before ComputerHope).
However, I still think it was a great antivirus.
After we got a new Computer, we carried our expectations of Norton along and bought Norton 360. HORRIBLE!
So my friend at the local computer store suggested Kaspersky.
WONDERFUL!

On my own computer, I have 3 boots, 2 with no AV and one with NOD32.

Started with Norton on Win98. IMHO, any product that requires a special script to remove from the system has definite design problems.

Used AVG on Win2000.

Currently using Avira on WinXP. They recently added a Rootkit scanner which I have found helpful.

Zone alarm killed my dads computer. It deleted all the exes it could find... one by one... (one every time the comp was turned on)

Dad thought it was a hoot when it first targeted the games, but he got very angry when it got word, excel, and powerpoint.

We worked out we'd got a fake version which was downloading all sorts of nasty stuff. (This was seven years ago.)

I was told I NEED NOD32, but, I simply cant afford it, and I don't believe in downloading programs illegally.

I use McAfee on my main laptop, and all my other computers use Avast. McAfee was provided free by my dads ISP, and they have really gotten better over the years, and faster.

I tried AVG twice, and decided I didnt like it. (One of my main judgments, besides detection rates provided by a datasheet made by some company, anyways, one of my main judgments is the control panel, and how easy it is to configure advanced options. Avast got me with how I can have more silent updates, and also, have a boot time scan.)

I've tried TrendMicro, but, didnt like the control panel. McAfee, according to magical data sheets, is better than both AVG and Avast. Ill just repeat that if I ever get a virus.

I have ClamWin available on my flash drive, and its also installed on my laptop, and I use that frequently for friends/family who need help, and already have a main scanner.

Certainly not . . . on a par with Norton IMHO.
Zylstra, have you tried AVG 8?  A lot of people say it's easier to use than 7.5.

I used to have Norton Antivirus installed on all computers.  It wasn't to bad of a program.  The newest computer I got had Norton Internet Security 2006 which we upgraded to 2007.  I actually liked it more than the old Norton Antivirus.  Earlier this year when the subscription expired I thought I'd get 360.  What a mistake that was.  All computers except for my laptop now have Avast.

I also have Zone Alarm and Webroot Spysweeper.  Zone Alarm used to be a great program until it's maker was bought out or something.  It's starting to become like Norton.

PS: Zone Alarm is a firewall not an antivirus program.  It does have a basic spyware/adware scanner built in though.
