Win98Se freezing
« on: August 24, 2004, 09:11:48 PM »
My Win98SE OS has begun freezing both in programs and on the Internet. First sign of it is the mouse arrow freezing at a certain point on the screen and then there is no mouse function. Nothing on the keyboard works, not even the arrow keys or the ctrl-alt-del method of getting out of a stuck application.
I always run Zone Labs Firewall, AVG antivirus (and keep it up to date), Spybot Search & Destroy along with Ad-Aware, and StartGuard to protect my computer.
The only recent install is Mozilla Firefox to get away from IE's problems, but it has run without problems for several days now before this new problem.
I have checked in the Device Manager in My Computer. I believe this is where you get the Exclamation points if something is amiss and I see nothing wrong.
Any ideas you have would be appreciated.
Also, for some time now I have not been able to successfully run Scandisk or Defrag.  I have even tried running in Safe Mode.
Anyone got any ideas that might help me?
Thanks - Shad
