    Here is my problem,
When I boot up in Normal mode the screen is blank etc no Icons, right or left clicking, and no start menu

I know this is a software problem rather than a hardware because I can start in Safe Mode and the monitor works just fine.  I can only access Windows task manager by Cnt:alt:dele: in Normal mode

Running Windows Vista Personal on a  HP dv2000

Not sure what is causing such a problem.  Please advise if you can.
    Thanks

When you open up Task Manager, start a New Process called explorer.exe

    Try that and post back.

      First thank you.

Nothing happened.  Other than it showed up again in Processes so there are two explorer.exe in Processes but nothing in applications.

I can get into windows by clicking browse.  When I did that this time it says that your searches may be slow because the index is not running.  I clicked to turn it on and it swamped the computer.

I was trying to get the control panel and I have yet to be able to in normal mode. I can get there in safe mode.

Sounds kind of like a virus? I have not been able to run av bc of networking issues on the computer.

I have tried system restore and other safe mode simple computer fixes disc scan etc to no avail.

      Thanks Joe

It may be a virus (at least it sounds like one + your antivirus is turned off).

I would have a look here:

Post the three logs here and one of our Malware Specialists will help you from there.  ;)

        Hi,
Thanks I was not sure if it was a Virus or not. I should make sure of that before I go further.
It says to uninstall any anti virus before I load another. Does that include Windows Defender?
        Thanks
        Joe

Just go ahead and post the three logs (SuperAntiSpyware, MBAM and HijackThis)
We'll worry about everything else after that.

Windows Defender is anti-spyware (there's a difference between that and anti-virus), so don't worry about uninstalling it.  Just make sure it's closed before you run the scans.
