    IP Address issue
    « on: August 17, 2008, 10:16:34 AM »
    Hi everyone,
I am having a problem getting my desktop pc to accept an IP from my modem.  I have tried using ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew to no avail.  I get an error message saying there is an issue with the DHCP server.  I am using Vista.  I have verified the modem is working as I am directly connected to it right now using my wife's Macbook Pro.  Any help would be greatly appredicated!  Thanks!

      Sure, it says:
"An error occurred while renewing interface Primary Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

"Primary Connection" is what I named my Local Area Connection 1.

        At command prompt, type in:
        ipconfig /all
        Hit Enter.

Copy everything, and post it back.

That's all of it.  Suffice it to say, thank god for flash drives.  I had started out typing it all since I couldn't email it and was thinking, "Man, I really wish floppy disks were still popular." till I remembered the Flash Drives that have replaced them.

          Try WinsockFix: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257
Obviously, you have to get it from working computer.

When I run WinSockFix I get a message saying "Registry Import Information not Found".  It then continues running and at the end it says "Repair Completed Please Reboot".  When I hit OK, it says "Run-time error '53': File Not Found".  I still tried rebooting but it didn't change anything.   :-[

            One more try...
            At Command Prompt, type in:
            netsh int ip reset
            Hit Enter.
Restart computer, and see, if it helped.

In that case, you may try System Restore.

OK, so we have a whole new issue, and I don't think it's DVD's fault.
                            Let me do some digging.

At what exact point are you getting mentioned error?
There is number of hits on Google about your error, but not too much help.
                              Some indicate damaged partition.

I am getting it when I try to partition the now unallocated space and select where to install windows.

Well, I have a 30GB partition that I am going to install vista on.  After it is loaded and I verify that my NIC is working as intended then I will deal with the partition issues from inside windows using the diskmanager or whatever it is called.  Bah, so much for a relaxing weekend lol.  Thanks for all your help Broni!

ARGH!  So yea, now I'm looking at a super blocky screen (no video card drivers yet) and still the same problem.  The IP IS different however I still cannot connect to the internet.  >:(

Not sure why, not sure how but I am now posting from my desktop PC.  Gonna update it then try going from the router as usual.  Seems like it is updating HELLA slow though.  Thanks again Broni!
