my main problem is that it will work perfectly for about 16hrs or so and then all of a sudden it just won't do anything.

My Windows media is getting worse and worse.  It wont play dvds.  It starts the movie and then freezes.  Once it does that nothing will work.

Sometimes when I reboot it wont start.  it shows the loading bar but will not get as far as my password page.  And sometimes if it does get to the password page it wont load the rest of the way.

Do you think that a disk check would work?

Just curious.  We had some extreme lightening storms.  Is it possible that they could have fried something sensitive in the computer?

As I said, I'd start with installing 1GB of extra RAM, but it's your call.

Did you notice power fluctuations during these storms?  Do you use a surge protector with your computer?  Is it a good one?  Is your computer a laptop/notebook or a desktop?

Its a desktop and I disconnect it from the power supply and the phone (I have dialup) when there is a storm that bad. 

I dont have the money to get any upgrades done at this time.

When you run Speedfan, it should be on the right.
