Access denied for my D and E drives
    « on: August 29, 2008, 05:58:46 AM »
There are only 2 people with user accounts on my computer (XP). We are both admins. Only one of us can use the DVD ROM drives. The other user gets an access denied error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both drives, but only the user that does this can access the drives, the other one is denied

Tried that Broni. Still access denied for the users who didn't delete the Primary IDE. Thanks for your help anyway, no matter how it turns out. Any other ideas?

Try to delete Primary IDE through the other user.

Tried that twice. Whoever I log onto first gets access, the other user is denied. It doesn't seem to matter which user deletes it.

Do both accounts have admin rights?

              What is EXACT error message?
Is any DVD in the drive?
"Access denied" pops-up, when you click on drive letter, or on drive content?

I've attached a copy of the page with the error. It's the same for both drives. There is no DVD in either one. I just click on the drive letter. The other user who has access gets the message "please insert a disc into D (or E)"

What happens, if you put DVD in?

Nothing happens, which is why I open my computer and click on the drive letter

Thanks anyway Broni. I'm still curious about the first solution. Tavern89 had the same problem, and you told him to delete the primary and secondary channels and it worked for him. Any idea on why I don't have a secondary channel? In fact, it doesn't even say "channel". It says IDE. We both have XP. Just wondering. Tx

Judging from your screenshot, it says "channel".
I'm not sure, why secondary channel is listed.
You may try to update your motherboard drivers.

I have the same problem, whenever I put in a dvd or cd it will say D:/ access denied or no disc in drive d   but in the device manager it says that everything is working fine.
