installed wrong recovery disk
« on: August 30, 2008, 04:47:52 AM »
Our computer crashed - fried motherboard.  We are Americans living in Africa so couldn't buy new parts here, had to order from States.  When it got here, we realized we didn't have our recovery disk for Windows XP media center edition for our HP desktop.  We ordered a new recovery disk from HP, but would take a month to get here.  We remembered our friend had left a recovery disk with us for his Everex laptop running Windows Vista.  We didn't know anything about Vista so thought we could just use it for the month while waiting XP recovery disks to get here.  That was really stupid!  Now we cannot get Vista off the computer.  At first it wouldn't let us format the partition.  We used KillDisk to wipe the partition, but still cannot get Vista off.  When we try to copy the KillDisk to a DVD to be used in DOS to wipe the other partition, Vista will not allow us to burn it.  We've tried about a million different things - it's like Vista has a mind of it's own and doesn't want to be removed!  Please help!
