computer will not boot just restarts

hi to all, im new here and have the same problem and the computer is the same brand it never gets to windows...(i have xp) its like starts loading and then goes back to compaq...what can i do ?

Reddevilgg.... the fans start fine......

chri6..... as i have said before it will not let me reinstall windows it will not boot up..... when i try to reinstall it starts loading windows and goes down then back up over and over

You said  the computer is running XP, try accessing the CD-ROM and double clicking Winnit32.exe to start setup for Windows XP.

This is unclear. When you boot with Windows CD in, does it go into installation, or it skips CD, and Windows tires to load?

the likely problem is the hard drive is set as the first boot device. Which is why it does the same thing with or without the XP CD in the drive.

Go into the BIOS and change the boot priority to have the CD Drive before the hard drive. THEN try to boot from the CD.

When you tried to boot from the Windows CD, what happened? Did you have the CD set as the first boot device? Is this a Microsoft CD or a Recovery Disk from Compaq?

To enter the BIOS to change the boot order, turn on the computer and press F1 while computer is starting. (If this model is from 2001, try F10.) Look for a section in the BIOS called Boot Order or Boot Sequence or similar. Make the CD drive the first boot device. Exit and "save changes."

Please answer the questions and let us know if you were successful changing the boot order. The CD that you have will determine the next step.

i have already tryied that, and it starts up trying and the loading XP screen comes up then it goes off and restarts again over and over and over again..... i just want to get in the DOS and format the C: thats the point that i am at now.. like you could in the old days

if its the same problem i have..the windows xp thing come with the loading bar(with the balck background) and it freezes and then retarts started in safe mode and it just gives me an error...

Repeatedly press F12 upon pressing your power button, with the XP disk in the drive.
This should bring you to your boot menu, choose to boot from your CD Drive.
