    lap top screen
    « on: August 30, 2008, 05:09:18 PM »
my lap top screen shows horizontal lines sometimes. kind of like static, but uniform. When I move the screen either back or forth, they go away. But they come back. Someone told me my screen was going to crap out on me. I have an HP Pavilion dv 8000,  with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600.

I think I know what you mean.

I remember once in school, my monitor was all wavy and out of focus and pretty much like static.
I asked my IT teacher what is wrong and he picked the monitor up and slammed it on the table.
    Problem solved.

However, I advise against doing this until we can have more information.

by back and forth, I mean by pulling it towards me about an inch and back up again, or if I kind of grab one cornewr and fold it down a bit then back up it goes away.
I know what you mean about slamming the monitior. I once "fixed" a dell laptop with a tee-ball bat. It NEVER gave a problem again!

yes, I grab the screen and fold it down about an inch or so, then push it back up.

The slamming works because it puts the film of the screen back into position. It works sometimes and should be used if all else fails.

Normally the way I have seen it done is to use the palm of your hand and hit the side of the screen. In other words as you are in front of the screen give the hard plastic edge 2 or 3 hard whacks…in a side ways direction.

Think of clearing the screen of one of those old etcher stretcher toys.
