It sounds, to me, that its on its way to the big mouse heaven in the sky.

Try googling it and seeing if the manufacturer has any tips on cleaning the inside of it.

I had a similiar problem with my expensive Intellimouse explorer. It was starting to really anger me- so I took it apart. Turned out some crud was stuck in the groove between the mouse button and the case itself. So I scraped a pound (ok, exaggeration) of dark coloured crud (dead skin? walrus roe? who knows?) out of it, slapped it back together, and good as new! (well, aside from the black mark on the left mouse button right where my finger sits...)

What the h**l is Walrus roe

Walrus eggs. a very rare breed of walrus lays eggs. I believe it was the result of cross-breeding with a opossum. (strange how a marsupial and a marine mammal can create a create that lays eggs. oh well) In addition the idea of a walrus and a opussum.. (ahem) "bumping uglies" is perhaps something better left out of ones mind.
