Can I bypass CPU Temp Sensor?
    « on: September 06, 2008, 08:58:31 PM »
Okay, P4 3.4 Ghz BTX board overheating according to sensor.  Shutting PC down almost immediately.

I have cleaned fans, reset heat sink with new thermal paste.  Both fans work fine.  All other temps okay including GPU which maxes out at 55c.

I have become convinced that the CPU temp sensor is malfunctioning.  I am willing to rick burning up CPU if I can bypass the sensor.  I have searched and am either searcing wrong place or it's not there.  Can I bypass the temp sensor to keep the PC from shutting down?  The PC literally will go from boot to desktop to shut down in less than two minutes.  If it is a software fix, if I boot in safe mode will it give me time input the bypass?

    Any suggestions?

Can you confirm that the computer is shutting down due to the temperatures?

What happens if you put an external housefan next to the computer to lower the temperatures?

You should consult the MBoard manual to see if this can be done...
Although not advisable if it gets it to work why not.
You may have to contact the manuf.

I get the message that the pc shut down due to a thermal event.  So I'm pretty confident that is correct.
