Windows 98SE Shutdown Problem
« on: April 24, 2004, 10:14:42 PM »
I am working on a computer that has Win98SE installed and it hangs while it is shutting down.

I started troubleshooting by disabling the IRQ settings and the PCI bus. The computer still did not shut down.

The next step I took was to go into DOS and use the bios.vxd bios old command

Now when I turn on the computer, it will go through the POST, and end up on the 98 start menu screen.

The problem is that now the computer will not even recognize my keyboard or mouse so I can't get the command prompt only option.

Once it gets past the Windows 98 screen I get a message that Windows did not Recognize the PS/2 mouse.

I hope that this makes some type of sense, if not I will be glad to try to clarify myself.

For your first issue.. there was a problem 98 had with shutting down when mapped drives were present.  MS had a fix on their update site.
