    Internet working slowly
    « on: May 11, 2009, 12:38:59 PM »
I have internet explorer 7 and recently it has started working really slow. I type in an address, it won't bring it up i have to refresh a couple of times before it brings it up. it will also give me the message "internet explorer could not open the site...operation aborted" but it still brings the page up. i have unplugged the modem, deleted all temp files, cookies and such and nothing worked. can someone please help me.

The first thing i would do is uninstal IE7 and see if IE6 works better...

But seriously your problem sounds like an external fault more than an IE fault.

From a command prompt type tracert and then a local web address...this will show the hops from your PC to the website, see if it fails at any point or if any of the hops

      here's a view of me tracert www.ntlworld.com

        1     1 ms     1 ms     1 ms  192.168.2.1
        2    46 ms    41 ms     9 ms  x.x.x.x (masked as my address)
        3    27 ms     7 ms    28 ms  bagu-cam-1b-ge92.network.virginmedia.net
        4    33 ms    10 ms    13 ms  bagu-t3core-1b-ae2-0.network.virginmedia.net [
        5    65 ms     9 ms     9 ms  lee-bb-b-so-130-0.network.virginmedia.net
        6    50 ms     9 ms    41 ms  man-bb-a-as2-0.network.virginmedia.net
        7    40 ms    27 ms    49 ms  win-bb-b-so-200-0.network.virginmedia.net
        8    35 ms    22 ms    27 ms  win-dc-b-v900.network.virginmedia.net
        9    35 ms    19 ms    16 ms  www.virginmedia.com [212.250.162.12]

As you can see its pretty low on the "ms" and i have a good idea that my line to the world out is good.

Is there a router in between the computer and the modem?  You'd've probably mentioned it if there was, but just checking.  They need rebooting, too.

You can't, really -- it's just a matter of whether everything comes back to normal, once you're done.

How long had you been using IE7, approximately, before things started to slow down?

What company is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

          Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?

I don't think you need to uninstall IE7.

We need to see, if this is IE fault, or something else.
Download, and install Firefox (if you don't have it), and see, if same thing happens?

Is it high speed internet? I assume so, seeing tracert log.

Have you tried to do a speed test?
