Okay everytime i open msn and wetsock(weather program) and many others i get this very annoying message that i must click 100 times so that the program can open. If i do not click ok it sits there until i do and another one opens over and over an over...
Heres what pops up:

Can someone help me?

Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have the CD handy.
When it's done scanning remove the CD and re-boot.

I entered sfc /scannow

then i hit enter just liek you said but nothing happened.
any idea what i did wrong?

Try Start -> Run -> cmd (press Enter).

Type sfc /scannow in the black box and press Enter. Tell us EXACTLY what happens.

Now what does this mean. i am an administrator on my PC.

Whats a console session?

How many User accounts are setup on that machine ? ?
You could try the above procedure in Safe Mode...

Poop...I forgot you were running Vista.

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right-click on "Command Prompt" -> Left-click on "Run as Administrator." -> Accept the UAC prompt.

Now type sfc /scannow (again, remember the space) and press Enter.

Another thing to try, if the above doesn't work.
Run Command Prompt again, and type in:
Regsvr32 winrnr.dll
Hit Enter.

I ran it as administrator and did sfc /scannow

after it scanned i got:

Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix soem of them.

Details are included in CBS.Log windir\log\cbs\cbs.log

.....

he message i get from bronis idea is a popup saying:

The model "winrnr.dll" may not compatible with the version of windows that you 're running. Check if the modele is compatible with an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of regsvr32.exe

Also, go C:\Windows\System32 folder, find winrnr.dll file, and post its version number.

wow im annoyed. I found it but when i go to upload it, it says you do not have permission to access this file. Please contact the owner or administrator.. ect.

and i can right click and open as administrator

I went to winrnr.dll's properties and there is no file version listed.

thast exactly what i just did. there nothign listed, its blank :S

ill do the other thign in the AM i have school soon.

It looks like your file is corrupt.
I'll upload that file for you.
Restart computer in Safe Mode, rename your current file to winrnr.old, and put my file into C:\Windows\System32 folder

I tried everythign i could think of, no luck o.0

I have been thinking of doing a complete system restore to my computer, i dont have much on it and the only think i use is Firefor and MSN... is it worth it? will it fix the problem?

Either take ownership of the folder/file or turn UAC off temporarily.

Ownership:

1) Right-click the file, left-click Properties.
2) Security tab.
3) Edit button. Accept UAC prompt.
4) Advanced button.
5) Owner tab.
6) Change owner to "Administrators"
7) Click check box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" (if necessary)

Apply -> OK. Accept UAC prompt.

UAC:

1) Start -> Control Panel
2) In Classic View, double-click "User Accounts"
3) Click "Turn User Account Control On or Off"
4) Uncheck "Use User Account Control (UAC) to protect my computer"
5) Accept UAC prompt
6) Restart computer.

we need to sticky this "take ownership" deal with vista, I've seen it multiple times, and it almost always involves the log file access too.

thanks... but I'm not using Vista. I meant it more because I've seen multiple problems of various types require the take ownership ability, and it seems to add an entire page of posts.

I'm assuming this will be kind of pointless in XP, correct?

I tried that registry hack on XP, but it didn't work for me.
