cannot access direct draw driver

hi everytime i try to load up a game (gangsters 2) i get this error

sorry...

unable to start game. Cannot access the direct draw driver.

this is a new problem i have played the game recently and it worked fine so I'm quite confused!

there is a system check in the gangsters 2 file which i have tried and it fails when it used to pass it comes up with system problems and says gangsters 2 requires a minimum of 4mb of useable video memory any help would be very much appreciated
