I'll be thrilled if they can fix the problems with Firefox 3.

This is a Beta release so beware.

      Works fine here so far...

For one, installing third-party software NEVER works. For example, if I need to install flash player (which I did, naturally), it'll say "Click to Install", and I'll select the thing I want to install, hit next... and it'll immediately fail. So I have to do it myself. A minor pain in the *censored*, but hey, it worked on FF2.

Also, some old themes don't work, which is again minor. Also, Firefox is consuming 80,000k of memory and there's no longer anything I can do about it - most of the hacks and patches for FF2 don't work on FF3.

I think there's a couple more, but they slip my mind at the moment.

Interesting, I've installed and upgraded Flash Player several times in FF 3 on several computers, Vista and XP -> no problems.

As for the memory usage, I've read that complaint many times with FF2.x and, to a lesser degree, with FF3. For me, and I only have 2 GB of RAM, it's never been an issue in the sense of slowing the computer or affecting browser speed. And, while looking at a site like Digg, I might have 30 browser tabs open - never an issue. Now, I do close and re-open FF periodically throughout the day so "memory creep" hasn't been an issue. But, if it weren't for Task Manager, I wouldn't know if FF used 20 MB or 220 MB - I've never had a performance issue.

Turns out Firefox has a huge competitor for memory usage, at least on my machine. I often leave it on when I go to work, and the memory usage is often spiked so I'm down to around 490MB free (with 1GB total, so not too bad).

Anyways, one day I left Windows Media Player open as well- when I returned, the computer was struggling, to say the least. RAMpage indicated 5MB of free memory- I open task manager- and WMP is consuming 800MB of RAM.

But why? It was idle... (meanwhile Firefox was sitting at 80MB)
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Okay, I'm not saying FF Mem usage is terrible - it has to consume more memory because it's not embedded into the OS like IE is. But FF2 only used about 30,000kb of memory, so I can't help but notice these things.

Firefox needs a Beta for its next update. Haha!

I think I'll wait till the real version comes out.

Will this actually restory functionality to Fire Fox? I actually un-installed fire fox 3 and reinstalled 2 because well I just got fed up having to rely on Internet Exploiter to bail me out whenever fire fox crashed/was incompatible/didn't stream/add-ons crashed/and a whole load of other stuff.

If I wasn't able to get my hands on MFF2 then I would have found another browser.
