CD/DVD driver
« on: September 24, 2008, 03:55:45 PM »
I have a HP Pavillion a6119h pc. running windows vista home premium 32 bit my cd/dvd stopped working. In device manager it regonizes the CD/DVDW but a mark is beside the drive<TST Corp TS-H653L ATA device. when you try and update the driver it says its up to date but comes up with this message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing". (Code 39). I downloaded the firmware sp35094 install wizard to my desktop followed instuctions but it will never finish the update. Don't really know if thats the fix or not. Any help will be greatly appreciated..Thanks..

Vista doesn't need any extra driver for optical drive.
Your error message is M$ pep-talk.

Try one of these:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
or...
2. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on downloaded file, and allow registry merge.
or...
3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.
