GeForce 9600 GT drivers won't install
    « on: September 26, 2008, 05:47:12 PM »
I'm putting together a new computer and experiencing some issues.  Here's the hardware.

    Motherboard: Foxconn P9657AB
    CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600
    Video Card: EVGA GeForce 9600 GT 512MB DDR3 PCI-E
RAM: Patriot PC2-6400 1GB (for now)
    PSU: COOLMAX CUQ-Series 1200 watts
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500GB SATA
    OS: Windows XP (x86) SP2

Windows is installed and running.  The GeForce 9600 shows up in the device manger as a generic VGA under display adapter.  When I attempt to run the driver setup from the included CD I get the following error:

    nvidia setup error
the nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware

Since this is the disc that came with the device, I expected it work.  Ideas?

Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

Open drivers folder on your CD with drivers and check in file "nv_disp.inf" that you have wroted on card support list "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT" (its on bottom on file).
Latest Nv official drivers  have your card NVIDIA_G94.DEV_0622.1  = "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT" so shoud work, try it if your drvs from oryginal CD doesn't have.

        Thank you, kage20.

Wow.  The drivers included with the 9600 do not support ANY of the 9000 series.  That's pretty crappy on EVGA's part.  I downloaded the latest driver and the card is recognized properly.

Yes it looks like inexcausable EVGA'S mistake:P but I hear that EVGA'S gfx have very good performance so its small problem If your card working faster, I have from week 9800 GT Gigabyte's but I never using oryginal drivers, if you using PC to play games best way is to select fastest and most compatibile drivers but it can take a while before you find the best drivers version for you GFX.

I'm building this for someone else, so I probably won't have the opportunity to tweak with the gfx drivers.

And now for something slightly different - SLI Options don't show up in the Nvidia Control Panel.  I set up the machine with just the one gfx card to simplify the initial setup.  I'm wondering if I need to remove and reinstall the drivers so Nvidia control panel will recognize there should be SLI Options

The second card is visible in the device manager, the SLI Bridge is connected, and both cards have the power connection.

Is SLI enabled in the BIOS ? ?
            Some will auto-detect...some won't.

There is no mention of SLI in the BIOS.  The manual lists all the settings in the BIOS. A search for "SLI" in the .pdf version returned "slide" and "slightly".   ::)

I don't know your MB but type Ctrl+F1 in BIOS may you will have some extra settings. I have on my MB hidden options (and all are disabled of course) for ati CrossFireX and some another settings so just try.

Did you try the motherboard chipset drivers download?

Yes, I did.  All drivers, utilities, Windows updates and BIOS are updated to the latest.

Is there a physical SLI selector jumper on the motherboard?  It's usually located between the two PCI-e slots.

Part of the problem is most people don't generally deal with computer problems. So for most they think that close enough is good enough.

No, there wasn't, but it's gone now.  Newegg is taking it back and we'll be trying a different motherboard.

Just get the correct drivers for your graphics card off nvidia.com. It's easier that way.
