    Half Life 2
    « on: September 25, 2008, 01:27:29 AM »
I was playing half life 2 with no problems. My pc crashed. When trying to play it again it would not run. I uninstalled it then re-installed it. It will not install all of the game just Steam. Checking the folders it seems that Half Life does not install. It just installs steam but the steam app`s is empty. I`ve tried uninstalling it.. Running a disk checker. Registry repair and other stuff but still the same problem. I`ve tried the repair on the cd but the same problem. Why doesnt it reinstall??????

Can you perform a System Restore to before the computer crashed?

Tried as you suggested. No good. Tells me it`s finished but the App`s folder is still empty. All there is in the folder are the 9 cgf files and nothing else.Steam updated ok but still half life isnt there.

I'm not familiar with Steam, but isn't Half Life a separate purchase or something?

It seems that it`s all part of the same thing. I`m not expert but seems you cant have one without the other.I cant see a way to install just half life alone :-(

What if you try removing everything (steam and half life) and reinstalling it?

So far.. Ive un-installed Steam and Half life after it refused to run. I then installed it and it installs steam but not halflife. I then un-installed it again, ran a system restore. I installed it again but... The steam directory is there and Half life should be in the steam apps folder. Nothing is there except the 9 cgf files. For some reason it refuses to install half life. I even sat there for ages and removed all references to steam in the registry in an attempt to get it too install. Same result. Steam but no Half life.

As far as I can gather they are  sort of reference files. Comonly used in games. I`m told...

Not sure what you mean here?

What happens if you uninstall Steam and then move the entire folder to the desktop (don't delete them).
              Now try reinstalling it.

Are you sure? There may still be a chance we can help with the problem.

Yes, there is no reason to give up yet!

Once you use a Key to activate a game with an account, the game remains active with that account forever, unless you transfer the license to another party.

In addition, any game active with your account can be downloaded through steam at no extra cost.

After logging into Steam, what does it show under the "My Games" Tab?
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

i think you have to make sure that your Half Life 2 is real first, because it requires Steam to play, unless of course, its a fake version costing 20 RMB in China.

However, if your game is real, then install steam, log into your account, and the game should be there.
