Server beeps continuously when Win2k3 is loaded
    « on: October 05, 2008, 03:09:20 AM »
    Hi and thankyou in advance.

I have a Dell server with win 2k3 loaded onto it. Over the last couple of days, it has started beeping constantly. The beeps start when the os get's to it's login screen and continues until it's shut down. It is still stable. I have booted it into knoppix and no beeps and very stable. I have run the mobo's diag's and all passed (With no beeps) then booted into the os, as soon as I got to the login screen, the beeps started. It's very frustrating. The beeps are coming from the mobo's onboard speaker. I have cleaned all fans and heatsinc's which were all good anyway and there is 18g's of free hd space on the c: part. Any ideas?

Does it have a keyboard plugged into it? If so, have you tried unplugging it?

Yes, it normally has only network cable and power cable plugged in and accessed via remote desktop etc. I have the server at home (office) so completely different environment.

        Thankyou for your response

I said be patient to him because we had already gone through all the ''does it make sound even when the keyboard is unplugged etc '' in the chat room.

Re-seat the RAM ( may have gotten loose when you cleaned ) and replace the CMOS battery if it's more than 4 years old.

            Thank you for your reply.

I have tried different ram and it seems to be the same. Beeps only start when the os loads. The system is only 16mths old.
