killed the computer, Can it be fixed simply or new part
    « on: October 06, 2008, 11:12:13 PM »
I have a Aspire Acer Computer, AMD Sempron (tm) processor 3000+
1.81GHz , 192 MB RAM. (Just Upgraded this with 1GB)
It has windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.
    Well it did have..............

I bought a new 1GB memory stick, sent all the info to Upgradeable.com using CPU-Z.

I installed it as was instructed.
While I was there I gently cleaned the fan as well.
I removed it and put it back as so.

Now when I turn the comp on the fan is going great (non stop in fact) but nothing else is happening.

Thats it nothing on the monitor.
I just tapped the side of the comp and the fan stopped.
I removed the new Ram to see if that would help but it hasn't.

I have just called Upgradeable.com to see what they advise and they have asked me to check all to make sure there are no loose wires.
Have done that, now advised to leave off for 15 minutes to see what happens then..........................

Stressed to the max, help please........................ :'(

Did you remove the fan from the Sempron processor, and then replace it?  Did you apply thermal paste to the processor when you did this?

Thermal paste: slimy stuff between the heat sink and the CPU.  Usually white, gray, or silver.

It's purpose: to transfer the heat from the CPU to the heat sink.  Without that, your CPU will run hot.

Part of the problem is most people don't generally deal with computer problems. So for most they think that close enough is good enough.
