    monitor screen getting fat!
    « on: October 25, 2008, 01:43:13 AM »
    Hello folks,

    All of a sudden my monitor screen has got fatter as if I have manually increased the
    horizontal size!!!  The resolution was set at 800x600 for a long time and just
    a couple of days ago the screen went beyond vertical borders so that I could not
    get to the right scroll bar or some of the icons near the left edge of the dektop. The
    mobo is a PIII running Wxp.

    On my 15" monitor there is an option in the setup menu, namely "recall" that
    when I selected, the problem went away but the next day it reappeared.  I put
    another video card on the mobo and the same problem showed.  I connected the
    monitor to another computer running W98 and everything on the screen was fine.

    I reconnected the monitor to my PIII running Wxp and set the resolution at
    1024x768/32bit and screen looked fine, but whenever I tred to set it back to
    800x600 the problem showed up again.

    What is happenning...

    Thank you for your help

    Try reinstalling your video drivers.

    What did you do before the problem? (downloads, installs, hardware changes, ect...)

      As far as I remember, I didn't do anything........honest  ::)!!!
      I don't have a video driver for this video board and Wxp simply installed its own
      driver and everything had worked fine since until a couple of days ago.  Now, how
      can I remove the driver that Wxp has installed so that Wxp can reinstall it again?

      Thank you Dude!

      What is your Computer Model and Manufacturer?

      Also, Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
      Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
      In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
      Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
      Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI

        Hi Dude  :),

        1- I proceeded to uninstall the video driver and have Wxp reinstall
        its own driver again-----> same results as before.

        2- I ran the recommended malware program and it removed several nasty
        stuff:

        Folders Infected:
        C:\Program Files\PCHealthCenter (Trojan.Fakealert) -> No action taken.

        Files Infected:
        C:\Program Files\PCHealthCenter\0.exe (Trojan.Fakealert) -> No action taken.
        C:\Program Files\PCHealthCenter\0.gif (Trojan.Fakealert) -> No action taken.
        C:\Program Files\PCHealthCenter\1.gif (Trojan.Fakealert) -> No action taken.
        C:\Program Files\PCHealthCenter\2.gif (Trojan.Fakealert) -> No action taken.
        C:\Program Files\PCHealthCenter\3.gif (Trojan.Fakealert) -> No action taken.
        C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\s1265.php (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> No action taken.
        C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\bindsrv2.exe (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> No action taken.

        This is the old report; later on the infection was removed.  However the problem
        still persists!!!

            Hello Dude,

            After removing all discovered viruses (thanks to Dude the computer guru),
            I suspected the hardware and after consulting with another computer guru,
            we found a fix for it: sync frequency!

            My monitor is a Hyundai Deluxscan 15G which could be a bit oldish for Wxp
            set up.  So he suggested that we go to:

            Control Panel-->Display-->Settings-->Advanced-->monitor

            and change the "Screen refresh rate" to something higher.  I set it at
            70 Hz and the screen looks fine now... :D

            By the way, I am gonna be back soon for a whole bunch of other
            questions!!!

            Wait, I'm confused.

            Have you followed all steps in the Malware Removal Guide?
