Software conflict?
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:41:23 AM »
Problem...
On many different websites I seem to have problems seeing and opening (like a dropdown menu etc.) different parts of web pages.

I have tried...
IE7, IE7 with no-addons, FF 2, FF2 Safe Mode, FF3, FF3 Safe Mode, Opera, Netscape, basically every browser I know.

I'm not sure if it could be TeaTimer or not, but I don't think so.
I think it could be some other program conflicting with it... ???

Anymore info needed just ask.

Thanks in advance. :)

Not sure I have any bright ideas at all - but is this a problem within just one page - suggesting you suffer an incomplete page load?  Does an F5 achieve anything or not?

Or - is this an effect influencing page to page linking?

Did you actually try Safe Mode with Networking?

No, refreshing does nothing. It's more than one page also.

No I didn't, but thanks, I will try it tomorrow.

If any of you use/have used Joomla CMS, that is where my main problem is. I'll do a bit of searching on their site for any known issues.

Thanks so far. :)

BTW, if a HijackThis log would help, I'll post one.
Also, there is no problem on our home PC (IE7) with these pages.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A200.

Well, I tried Safe Mode with Networking, but then I realised that my "mode of connection" is a USB modem, and in safe mode, Windows won't let any drivers run.

So....?

I connect to the internet with a 3G USB modem, but in Safe Mode, Windows only loads the core drivers, right?
I can't connect with it....

Sorry for the bad explanation.

I see...
Is your Java up to date?
If it's, you may try to reinstall it.

Actually, it's not up-to-date.

Now that you say it, with the last few days it has been asking me to update.
I'll do that and get back to you. :)

Nope, no luck with Java. ???

I said about Joomla....

Here is a screenshot of what it's not supposed to look like.

The marked area is supposed to open like a drop down box...

It's not clear here.
You're building some web site, using Joomla, or what's Joomla connection here?
Post a link to the site, you just posted screenshot from.

Drop down menus work for me.
Did you create that page?
Is this the only page affected?

Drop down menus work for me.

They work fine for me also on my home PC.

I didn't create the page, it is built into the Joomla CMS.

Well, no this isn't the only page affected. Other parts in the admin section are also the same. I also have problem on Saviour PC (using Drupal CMS, I think)... Here is the URL, http://www.saviourpc.com/faq. When I click on either of....

Computer (General) (4)
Computer Hardware (1)
Forum (1)
Malware (8)
Saviour PC™ (7)

I see nothing. The text just moves down a bit, but I don't see anything. Actually, when I copy and paste them, I get...

Computer (General) (4)

    * Where can I find information on Windows 98 and Millennium Edition error messages?
    * How do I extract original compressed Windows 95, 98 and Millennium Edition files?
    * How do I remove Windows Live OneCare? I forgot the password for my Adminastrator account.
    * How do I boot into Safe Mode?

Computer Hardware (1)

    * Where can I get help with video cards?

Forum (1)

    * What are forum ranks and how are they assigned?

Malware (8)

    * What is a "Rootkit"?
    * What is a "Keylogger"?
    * What is the difference between a "cookie" and "spyware"?
    * What is a "Trojan Horse"?
    * How can I prevent a virus from infecting my computer?
    * What is a "Worm"?
    * What is a "Virus"?
    * What is "Malware"?

Saviour PC™ (7)

    * Does Saviour PC™ offer computer support via e-mail?
    * How can I link to Saviour PC™?
    * If I register on the forum, do I have to create a new account here?
    * If I create a new account here, do I have to register on the forum?
    * How do I create a new account?
    * Why can't I login to the main Saviour PC™ website, or its Forum?
    * How do I apply for a Moderator role?

I can't understand it.

EDIT: Stupid smilies.... ;D

This is interesting issue, but not much of any advice comes to my head right now.
Did the issue just start?
Did you try to reset modem, disabling firewall?
What AV are you using?

Thanks for continually trying to get this sorted. :)

I'm using CA Security Suite.
I have resetted my modem many times.
I haven't tried disabling my firewall, but could it be this seeing as all my internet browsers give the same thing? I'll try it anyway.

Well disabling the firewall fixed the admin section on my site (:D) but the FAQ section on Saviour PC is the same....

So how would I go about configuring the firewall to actually make my site "work"?

???

I'm not familiar with CA firewall, so you'll have to dig through its settings.

As for Saviour site....what happens when you right click on expandable link, and click "Open in new tab"?

Okay, I now have my firewall enabled and the admin section of my site is still working. Thank you! ;)

Now for Saviour PC....

-- Most parts of the Saviour PC site that weren't working are now working! Except for the FAQ section...

Very interesting.
In FF, go Tools>Options>Content, click on "Colors" button.
Make sure, "Allow pages...." box is checked.
Restart Firefox.

All I did to solve this was, in CA Firewall, went to the options tab, cookie tab, unchecked "Remove private header information" and "Disable web bugs", and then the ad/popup control tab, and unchecked "Pop-up/Pop-under ads".

Okay, I actually unchecked 3 checkboxes....
