    « on: October 28, 2008, 10:02:08 AM »
I have an older computer that has

    2 intel pentium III processors
    1 gig sdram   4  256mb chips
    2 HDD
    Geforce 3 graphics card

This computer Runs Games great but the games are constantly crashing. and this computer likes to randomly restart for no reason.

    What could be the problem?
    i run 7 different screens with 7 different towers(SYNERGY)
    1. always test the ram
    2. switch graphics cards
    3. run your virus scans
    4. mix and match parts
    5. just because it was thrown out doesn't mean it's all bad
    somethings broken/They think it's slow(Reinstall windows)

    Heat, maybe...

    Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
    Post your computer temperatures:

Provide processor info, and Windows version.

      you try following steps:
                        1. change your RAM.
                        2. Apply heat sink in your processor.
                        3. Connect extra fitting fan.

What is your operating system? Is the computer on the internet? Do you have any virus protection?

Yes i believe it is a heat issue.....

        They are petium III processors.

one has the standard factory heatsink, and the other has an antec heatsink.

Standard heatsink CPU- low is 88F high is close to 110F and maybe hotter
antec Heat sink            - low is 82F high is close to 98F   but not much hotter

i believe while playing Dungeon siege the one cpu gets closer to 115F give or take a little. I haven't been able to test more. When i got these numbers it was after i changed to flow of a rear fan from out to in. which could have fixed this problem but like i said more testing is needed.

        Looks normal to me.

Are you sure even 105F seems pretty hot to me. I thought 100F was about then breaking point in most cases.

          What are you talking about?
          For desktop's CPUs max temps range from low 60C (60 °C = 140 °F) to mid 70C (70 °C = 158 °F), and for laptops even into 90C (90 °C = 194 °F)

or a griddle. if a computer ran that hot, you could throw some eggs in a pan on top and cook breakfast!

Even though you have dual processors, 1GB of older (eg. pc2700) RAM, could be causing the crashes especially with newer style games. What OS are you using and when are you getting the re-starts.
