    « on: November 08, 2008, 10:55:33 PM »
Ok, so I bought a HP wireless photosmart c4580 printer, and now my comp takes forever to load!  I googled it, and it seems that certain services that are running need to be disabled, but im not sure if i should or not ???  Here is a HJT log if this helps (p.s. i downloaded a few other things as well, is there anything i can remove to speed it up a little bit more?)

    Unnecessary startups:
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIPTA] "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe" (unless you have optimized video settings)
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wltray.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wltray.exe
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hpqSRMon] "C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSRMon.exe"
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Aim6] "C:\Program Files\AIM6\aim6.exe" /d locale=en-US ee://aol/imApp
    - O4 - Global Startup: HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
    - O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe
You can "fix" those entries through HJT.

    In addition....
    Download, and run  CTFMON-Remover: http://www.gerhard-schlager.at/en/projects/ctfmonremover/
The CTFMON-Remover helps you removing the annoying CTFMON.EXE from your Windows operating system. The program is easy to use and displays whether the CTFMON.EXE is installed and running or not. If it was found then you can remove it within seconds. Just in case that you need the CTFMON sometime in the future there is also an option to restore the original one.
Note:The CTFMON.EXE is among other things responsible for changing the language schema of your keyboard (e.g. for switching between the German and English keyboard layout). So in case you are using this feature you shouldn't remove or disable the CTFMON.EXE!

Thank you! However, it seems to be slow still.  What happens is, when my computer gets to a certain point, it just stops loading.  I see not everything is loaded yet, then after about 1 min 30 sec, the computer finishes up.  It might have to do with this:
      http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1226212156630+28353475&threadId=1169869

Im not too sure how to check to see if it is that,m but it probably is.  It seems as if the computer stops for this time to look for the printer on the network.

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
      msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

      Click on Startup tab.
      Click Disable all

      Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
      Click Disable all.

      Click OK.
      Restart computer in Normal Mode.

      Same thing?

No, not at all.  Computer starts right up.  It defenitely has to do with one of the services for the printer.  However, i dont want to disable the printer so that i have to enable it every time i want to use it.  But yes, it starts right up with no problem.

I thought i fixed it, but i didnt :(  still having the problem.  Turning off what you told me made it start perfectly, then puttin them back on, slow start again.

Well, we have a good starting point now.
It's gonna be painful, so take it easy.

Turn everything off, like instructed in my reply #3.
Then, start turning entries on, but one thing at a time, restarting computer each time. Have your stopwatch ready.
At some point, you'll find the culprit.

Basically, Windows are loaded, when computer is operable.
Try, for instance, open Windows Explorer, if you have desktop shortcut to it. Or My Computer.
If it loads, the computer is up.

under services, when i left everything alone except the two HP services, it started quickly.  I disabled both, and it was fine!  So i think its both of them doing it.  However, I am not too sure disabling them will affect if the printer will work correctly or not.  In services, next to them, one says "start pending" and the other "stop pending".  This is while they are checked.
