    Sound plays slow and distorted.
    « on: November 14, 2008, 08:31:15 PM »
I recently had another motherboard (taken from a working computer) installed on my computer.  I was not getting any sound when I got it back.  I installed a new sound card but it plays back sounds very slow and distorted.  I have checked all sound settings, reinstalled drivers, updated drivers, spoken with the manufacturer...all to no avail.  I have searched all over this forum and other places on the internet and haven't found an answer.

My operating system is Windows XP with service pack 3.  The sound card I installed is an Xtreme XS71 made by Diamond.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.  :)

    Was motherboard professionally installed?
    Were motherboard drivers installed?

Can the motherboard cause the sound to play slow even though I've installed a new sound card?

Do you have any warranty on motherboard installation?
Why did you accept the job, since sound was not working?

No, there is no warranty, because I bought it on Ebay.  The person who worked on it is a professional, who is also a friend, and he lives in another state.  He did the job for free.  I didn't know about the sound problem until my husband picked it up and brought it home.  Everything else works great.

You didn't answer my question.  What in the motherboard can cause a problem like this?  Is it something I can fix or a setting I can change?

          Thank you.

Did the sound work on this motherboard in the machine it was taken from?

On-board sound chip may be busted. You can get simple sound card for about $15.

Have you disabled the motherboards sound via BIOS? I've had it before where it caused a conflict with my PCI soundcard if it wasn't disabled.

              Just something to try.... :)

I don't know if the motherboard sound card was working or not.  I did disable it in the BIOS.  It is the NEW sound card that is playing slow and distorted.

I have even tried switching the slots the card is plugged in to.

                Any other suggestions?

                Thanks!

Bad hardware, out-of-box happen. Exchange it for a new one.

I exchanged the new sound card and it STILL sounds slow and distorted.

Your motherboard may have some issues, then.
                  Did you try different speakers?

We understand that you have disabled the outboard sound and are using a sound card that you had to plug into a PCI slot. But was the built-in on board sound bad to begin with? Was is not working at all? Was is bad sounding?
What sounds are slow and distorted? The standard system sounds? Sounds off the Internet? Sound off of a CD?  Do WAV files sound good but MP3 do not?

The replacement motherboard had no sound.  I disabled the onboard sound and installed a new sound card.  The new sound card plays ALL sounds (system, cd's, mp3's...everything) distorted and slow.  I have even replaced the new sound card and tried different slots. Didn't work.  I just installed new speakers.  Still doesn't work.  I have checked all speaker settings and all are on and not muted.  This is very frustrating!  I need my music!
