not able to use dvd/cd players

i just finished installing windows xp pro.i upgraded from windows 98.now i cant use my dvd player or burn cds.i tried using media player 10.wont detect cd burner or even play dvds.i cant use my original dvd player either.whats the most simple way to fix this? anyone please help. thank you.

Have you tried running a Windows Update since you installed XP? If not then go to http://www.microsoft.com , and click on Windows Update... Next, click on Custom Installation... Look under hardware, and install any and all drivers available...
