    disappearing cursor
    « on: December 22, 2008, 08:31:27 PM »
this is my first post on this website.  i have a compaq presario f572us notebook which operates w/windows vista.  when my computer goes on standby (or at times randomly), the cursor disappears.  i have to restart the computer to get the cursor back.  this may (hopefully) be a very dumb question w/ a very easy solution.  anyone have any input??

    When did this start happening?

    Any recent downloads/installs/hardware changes/ect....?

    Any error messages?

Does this happen at the same time every time?

It has happened since I bought the laptop last year.  It mostly happens if the computer goes on standby and then I start using it again.  Sometimes it just happens.  It has been happening less since I set the display to "never" go off.

      Take a look at this.

I'm not sure the path for Windows Vista, but this is how to get it with Windows XP:
Start --> Control Panel --> Mouse --> Pointer Options.
Now there should be a check box for 'Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key'. Tick it.

When the cursor disappears again, see if it can be located.

Its funny because it is true, also make sure that you have not downloaded any thing that could effect the cursor, say like a bad batch file, which edits the cursor setting or something like that.
