Hi all. I am getting a little frustrated after days of scouring the FAQs section and searching the archives I have not been able to solve my issue. I am home for an extended stay for the holidays and I promised my sister I would attempt to fix her laptop for her.
Her Setup
- Sony Vaio VGN-FS8900P
- Windows XP professional SP3
- 68.5GB w/ 37.5GB(55%)free
- Intel Pentium M processor 1.73Ghz
- 2.0GB RAM (512 prior to one of my hopefull fixes)
It is very similar to an earlier and as far as i can find unresolved post by drunknmunky_uk
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=69793.0 in that I am experiencing a high CPU usage(between 95-100% even with no other programs running) when trying to watch videos or listen to music which I feel is causing the "jittery" audio and video. I started by upgrading the memory from one 512 stick to 2x 1g 553MHz sticks bringing the computer up to the maximum 2GB. This made the computer run a bit faster but really no change to initial symptoms. I considered restoring to a previous date but when I ask her when this problem started happening I got no helpful responce.
. I then thought maybe i would just backup all of the important files that she wanted to my external hd(ie. .mp3 and .m4a files from itunes library) and just do a clean install. After spending a few hours transferring files I found out that her cd-drive does not work. Nor does she still have the restore disk I got her 2 years ago. From there decided to try and free up some space so I uninstalled several unused applications ran cc-Cleaner a few times and defraged the C:\ drive. A little faster maybe but still having same problems.
I decided maybe the audio driver either needs updating or is just improperly installed. I installed the current version and ......... nothing haha. She was running a very old version of AdAware and widows firewall(tighter security than Fort Knox
) So I followed the "Read this before requesting page" And to my surprise Malwarebytes turned up nothing(at least from the quick scan from both the c: drive and the files that I had moved to my external) I will perform the full scan and post that log after this post. SuperAntiSpyware turned up absolutly nothing after 3 hours of scanning. And HJT found read as follows:
