Yes, even fibre optic cables will supposedly give over 1 GBPS, which is a lot faster.
is that even possible at the moment?

Yes, I have heard many stories about people using fiber optic cables to perform experiments involving faster more efficient data transfer. But I do not think it is consumer-available at the moment.

I cant beleive some people still have dial up. Actually most people in my small town do. Rarely do I hear of people having broadband
Supposedly, half the planet is still stuck on dial-up.

DSL only just became available last December where I live, and it was bye-bye dial-up in a flash...  ;D

satellite should be more availble than DSL, but then you have to deal with bad weather, but who would want to play W.o.W in the middle of a Thunderstorm

Wow! I have had fibre-optic cable broadband since January 24th 2001, it was 512 kbit/sec. I know that may seem slow compared to nowadays, (I have 20 Mbit now) but boy was it faster than 56k dialup, which actually only ever gave me about 40 kbit/sec. I remember my friend who was on dialup coming over, and to show him the speed, I fired up Napster and set about 6 downloads going at once, and when he saw the progress bars whizzing across, he said "I'm getting this!" and he signed up the same day.

Since you quoted my post, Mr. Google, I presume your question, "WHAT! Are you serious?" was directed at me, and I, in my turn, ask you: whatever could possibly make you think I might not be? (You have not indicated what part of my post you are asking about.)
