    No fixed disc present  ????????
    « on: April 21, 2005, 07:43:24 PM »
Received a Dell GX260 from the job. The HD was wiped cleaned of course. Trying to install Win XP. Tried formating the 40G drive with my old Win 98 FDISK, however I keep getting a
" NO FIXED DISC PRESENT" . Tried starting the machine normally and was notified that
"PRIMARY HARD DISC 0 WAS NOT FOUND" I made numerous adjustments to the jumpers but to no avail. Also tried the 6 Floppy XP start up discs. Nothing. What is it that I am missing or doing wrong?
Thanking you in advance for your help. >:( ???

Did you move the hard disk at all, remove it from the p.c and plug it back in?

Sounds like you have a bad drive there.

If you have messed about with the jumpers, you should remove them (usually no jumpers set if used as primary) if you are using it as Primary, otherwise you should refer to manufacturers website for slave settings.

Bootup PC goto setup and make sure your BIOS can detect it as 40gig drive then save settings and quit.

You can boot with XP CDROM to install XP, you must change the boot order first to CD. ;D

Thanks to all for the love.
It turned out that the IDE connection on the board was dead. Replacing the mainboard.
